Archie to Riverdale and Back Again Big Ethel

Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again (TV Movie 1990) Poster

Not as good as comic books.

Although this film is not as adept equally the comic books, information technology is notwithstanding worth watching. The acting is a chip cardboard. The guy that said Mr. Gild would never practice annihilation to physically damage Archie is right and Veronica would never refuse her begetter's money, I however love to watch this film.

A Trip To Riverdale, 15 years after

I don't know why people trash this movie, it'southward non bad at all! Of course I can sympathise why people don't like it, due to the 'grown-upwardly' Archie characters...Plus this was probably a pilot for a TV series that never took off the basis (I wish that this had been a serial.) And call back you tin can't explain everything in a pilot episode. I'm a fan of the comics and had been for many years when the motion picture came out.

But all in all, it'south a great motion-picture show. Some characters are the same years later on, others are very dissimilar they where in the comics!

Information technology's xv years since the gang has graduated from the halls of Riverdale High:

Christopher Rich plays Archie, now a lawyer, getting prepare for a motion to the big city, and he'due south engaged to Pam, a very stuck up woman.

Sam Whipple is Jughead, a compress now, (A very far strech for Juggy) just he's divorced, with a son, and has women problems.

Karen Kopkins plays Veronica, Ronnie is still the same, afterward 4 husbands, and she's still daddy'southward piffling girl, but Ronnie is realizing that coin doesn't purchase happiness.

Gary Kroeger is Reggie, He is no longer the wisecracker he was, while in the halls of Riverdale High, Reg probably owns the entire cake that houses 'Popular'due south Choc'late Shop'...

and last simply not least of the gang is Betty, wonderfully played by Lauren Holly. She does a great job of being the happy-go-lucky graphic symbol that Betty is! And Betty has a boyfriend, who is not the happier to meet Archie Andrews.

Plus nosotros go to meet Moose and Midge, Large Ethyl, Mr Weatherbee, Mrs Gundy, Double-decker Taylor, simply sadly the movie is missing Dilton, and Jitney Taylor'southward son Chuck.

All of the characters are back in town for the course reunion others have been in Riverdale since school ended. The flick is like an Archie comic, in a 'years later' kind of way. The storyline has many different side stories, merely is a fun moving-picture show to picket.

I'd give it 8 out of ten stars....

Essence of characters intact

I read Archie comics from age v to 13--they were like sometime friends. That was many years ago but I'm all the same sentimental about them and was eager to see this movie later learning about it years afterward its initial release. When I finally got the opportunity I viewed it with a bit of trepidation; I'chiliad more or less a purist and for me its success would be dependant on the characters concrete resemblance to their comic book counterparts. Personality was important too only the artwork was a big function of what I loved about the comics. I wanted the motion-picture show to respect the Archie tradition. I was disappointed that of the original teenagers just Veronica and Reggie bore a strong physical likeness to their comic book originals but during the course of the motion-picture show Archie, Betty and Jughead seemed to transform...the actors ably portrayed the essence of the characters and convinced me that yes, this is what they would look like and act like fifteen years after graduation. As far as personality goes, that was well captured, too; subsequently all, we all grow upward but retain our essential character. In that location are places where the plot stretches credulity simply that's function of the Archie heritage...the comic books were often madcap beyond belief! Except for some unnecessary sexual innuendo which didn't add much to the story, this was a tender hearted look at the power of friendship to endure teenage angst and be the improve for it. (For the record I agree with everyone'southward comments about Jughead and the forgettable rap vocal--I dare say 18-carat rappers would be offended! Is there ANYONE out there who liked it?)

A Great Entertaining Motion picture. Don't Believe What The Others Say

This was a really good movie. It was entertaining, that's all that matters. I think the "cocky-proclaimed" Archie buffs who gave the bad comments about this movie didn't lookout it with an open-mind. Even if you read the comic books, you lot would find this motion picture believable. Sure it would've been dainty if the characters in the comic books turned out to be just the way y'all wanted them to exist, but that'due south not what life's about. Yous should look to be disappointed in life, but as with this picture. If you programme on beingness disappointed when you go to watch this flick, then y'all'll be relieved when you watch this movie (considering it isn't all that bad). Going in with loftier hopes will requite you the Siskel-Ebert syndrome where yous find yourself scrutinizing every scene and character interaction. And then I recommend this moving-picture show to anyone who has an open mind, and who'south a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (the TV show that'south no longer around). If y'all tin make fun of a motion picture, and yet savor it, and then y'all're getting your money'due south worth. Like it or detest information technology, Render To Riverdale is worth the money (y'all just gotta be open-minded).

Take it Easy, guys...

Warning: Spoilers

(This may contain spoilers, unless you've read anyone else's comments)

Just in reply to some of the comments about this movie....it'due south a pic about Archie, don't take information technology as well seriously! Everyone is arguing almost all the inaccuracies....Reggie would never try to close Popular Tate'southward (if you watched the picture show, you would know that he was only following his bosses orders)...Mr. Lodge would never try to physically injure Archie (near the end he gives his chauffeur heck, maxim "I only wanted you lot to SCARE him!")...or that the group had lost contact for xv years (how many of You all keep in impact with all of your highschool friends after 15 years?) I liked the motion-picture show, it was fun. I thought that everyone really was in character, and it was keen to meet that no matter how much they thought they had changed over the years, the gang getting back together again made them all realize that they were only trying to fool themselves. I really liked the cease, despite what anybody else seems to think (although I think that Reggie would have needed a bit more a simple amends to get dorsum in anybody's good graces)....information technology was nice to see anybody fallen back into their roles and the idea that they would proceed to live their lives following the aforementioned dynamic every bit they had in highschool (who amid us hasn't felt that bit of nostalgia looking at an quondam yearbook?). The downside...definitely the "Sugar Sugar" rap, and I would accept liked to see a few other characters (Dilton peculiarly).

A nice try

When always I travel I e'er buy Arche comics because they provide joyous laughs. Watching this movie a week ago made me realize that some comics shouldn't exist made into movies. The cast mainly full of unknowns excepet for Lauren Holly. The plot revoles effectually the gang at their high schoolhouse reunion. But where are Chuck and Dilton ? Another flaw is having the aforementioned charcters play each other when their 15 which is impaired. The motion picture's low bespeak comes when Jughead tries to rap. I would made this film when the gang was in high schoolhouse and have them reunite at the end instead of baseing the whole effectually the reunion. We can only promise that the characteristic movie version in devolpement with a cast incudling Tobey Maugiure,Joshua Jackson and Christina Ricci will be practise the comic justic.

This was a expert live-activity remake of the comic!

I really enjoyed this motion picture considering I grew upwardly with the Archie comics and always wondered who would play their parts if this were ever live-action.

The only affair I would have left out was the fact that Archie and his fiancee are living together. Not a good example for kids.

Neat job otherwise! The characters are well-captured - I just wish some other could be made to bear witness the cast in their xl'due south and what they practice with their lives.

Eradicate this before information technology spawns!

This movie really f****ng sucks. Growing up, I was a rabid fan of Archie comics, and this motion picture just didn't do information technology justice. It took the fun and liveliness of the comics and turned information technology into a slow, ridiculous, embarassing failure. Lauren Holly (playing Betty) is probably cowering in shame that anyone has seen her in this!

Anyhow, the girls are sexually obsessed with Archie, who tin can't make up his mind. Reggie and Mr. Social club are trying to shut down the Choklit Shoppe, where things become totally unrealistic. Reggie, in my opinion, though scum, would never try to close downwardly his favorite childhood hangout. Also, Mr. Lodge tries to "accept out" Archie with cutting brakelines and a bomb. In the books, Mr. Club was only annoyed past Archie, not out to institute him 6 anxiety nether.

This may be a bit of stupor to people (so brand small-scale children leave the room) they even corrupted the Archies superhit "Carbohydrate, Sugar" past having Jughead and his son turn into a disgusting rap number. Likewise, for more than unbelievable fun, Big Ethel turns out to be supermodel. As anyone who has read the comics knows, Ethel was the female person version of Jughead.

Anyway, don't bother seeing the flick unless you detest the Archie gang. Then, you lot'll love it.

Ouch.

Warning: Spoilers

An absolutely laugh-free live-action version of the comic book/cartoon perennial, with sheepish actors portraying the Riverdale High gang equally annoying thirty-somethings -- Archie'due south a lawyer, Reggie'due south an entrepreneur, Veronica'south a multi-divorced billionaire, Betty's a schoolmarm, Jughead's a shrink. The franchise's loftier point, the catchy "Sugar Sugar," is excruciatingly performed equally a rap. Who exactly was this film made for? Adults who grew up with the Archie comics/Saturday morn show won't sit through this poorly-produced film with cheap special effects (in split scenes, a machine crashes through busy downtown Riverdale and a bomb blows upward a major storefront -- without Anybody getting injured) and the under-8 set who read the comics today won't get the innuendo (there's a pathetic farcical scene at a motel where both Veronica and Betty effort to seduce poor Archie, whose snotty fiancée is virtually to drop in). The last shot (the gang decides to motility back to Riverdale, and they pose for a triumphant snapshot) strongly implies that this movie was intended as a pilot for a new series. Be thankful it never came to pass.

Archie grows up

Warning: Spoilers

The adult side of Archie isn't new - despite what series like Riverdale would have the states call up - as this movie has the comic book hero coming back dwelling house 15 years subsequently graduation. In England, where they'd accept no context for the comic, it was called Weekend Reunion.

Dick Lowry as well directed several of the Kenny Rogers Gambler movies and The Jayne Mansfield Story so you know the quality that you're getting into hither.

Archie (Christopher Rich) is at present a lawyer virtually to marry his fiancee, while Veronica (Karen Kopins) has been married four times, Betty (Lauren Holly) has become a schoolhouse instructor, Jughead (Sam Whipple) is a psychiatrist that fears women and Reggie (Gary Kroeger) is still a jerk.

While this pilot for a serial wasn't picked up, Archie Comics published an adaptation of that had Stan Goldberg and Mike Esposito art in the flashbacks to look like the classic comics and Gene Colan drawing the modern versions of the characters. It also has a embrace by John Byrne, who didn't ofttimes depict comedy characters similar Archie and his friends.

This motion picture should never have been made!

I'k sure most of the cast and crew of "Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again" is currently plotting to have this embarrassing movie erased from existence. They've very effectively removed all the joy, youthful exuberance and goofiness from the sometime comic books (and tolerable TV cartoons) and replaced it with sullen, deadening, thick and execrably cheesy fabricated-for-Tv set mush. Avert this stinkeroo at all costs, even if information technology means watching a blank screen for ii hours instead.

Barney would take been better...

To start off, I call up this movie definitely was horrible! I take been an Archie fan since I was very young. I honey the comic books, only I don't love this movie.

This movie sucked because Jughead shouldn't exist a shrink, the teenage Jughead we all know does not give a dam* nearly other people! Yep, he was an fantabulous friend to Archie, but Jughead isn't the blazon to refrain from eating cheeseburgers' all mean solar day and listen to pathetic problems.

Non only was the graphic symbol 'Jughead' bad, merely Reggie Mantle, the thug we all know would non seek that type of revenge to the gang. Reg was full of dirty gags, only he wasn't similar that. Reggie was a jerk, not a jack***! Geez, even Reggie had 'some' morals.

And Betty and Veronica'south sorry attempt to win over Archie didn't seem to exist too realistic. The catastrophe is pretty sad, also..."simply friends"--right. That is the love-sick Archie we all know. NO way, Archie would not loose contact over the woman he loved for his whole teenage years for an abrasive fiancee. Puh-lease, who made this movie?

Overall, this movie stunk. Big Ethel will never be a model, Jughead had no intentions to become some 'rap wannabe'. Along with Archie's Weird Mysteries, this has been a horrible movie and I'm deplorable I ever watched it.

Terrible movie

Warning: Spoilers

How any fan of Archie comics could approve of this "moving-picture show", I don't know.

This movie is bad in every way imaginable. Whoever fabricated this movie clearly knew nothing about Archie comics and wanted to make a quick fabricated-for-TV cadet.

Everything most this movie is merely wrong. The characters are NOTHING similar the characters in the comics. I know that these are older versions of those young characters, merely the "maturity" and "evolution" of these characters that people talk about are actually only capricious character traits. Really, would asexual Jughead be that stupid to have a child with some hoe? And then get a career equally a psychologist? Absolutely not. Would Hiram Club hate Archie plenty to desire to impale him? Absolutely not. Would Betty OR Veronica knowingly have Archie crook on his wife with them? Admittedly not. Would Reggie be such a weasel as to help Mr. Lodge evict Pop Tate's Chocklit Shoppe? Absolutely non. Nigh every grapheme trait and activity is completely unbelievable.

And why was Jughead'due south son such an obstinate little brat? I could understand an unruly kid, but this child is a complete jerk! If I were Jughead, I'd take whipped his rear dorsum into the stone age. What's fifty-fifty more outrageous is how Archie almost MURDERS Jughead's son by pushing him off a tall ladder! I know that the scene was supposed to be comedic, only think about it: Archie could accept KILLED the kid! Would the Archie in our love comics do something that foolish? Admittedly not.

Past the way, who the heck idea it would be okay to put sex activity into a movie based on children's comics? Sure, relationships and dating are the chief themes of Archie comics, but sexual practice was never discussed(for valid reasons). No sex actually happens in TRaBA, but a scantily clad Veronica literally tries to become Archie in bed and begs him to do it with her! And then there are the embarrassingly bad scenes like where Jughead and Archie are in the runaway machine that was rigged by Mr. Order to plow into Herbie the Dear Problems. At present maybe I missed something, but was there any reason why Archie couldn't have just taken his pes off the gas? He never said that the automobile wouldn't terminate, but simply that the brakes didn't piece of work. Once again, this is some other example of the ridiculous idea that Mr. Lodge would desire to murder Archie.

Even worse than that was when Jughead does a bad 90s rap version of Sugar, Carbohydrate with his son. The only way to know but how bad this scene was is to sentry the move.

And of course at that place's the role where Betty barges into Archie's motel room, unbuttons her blouse, and asks him to take sex activity with her. So Veronica shows up, sees that the shower is running and says to Archie "How did you know that was i of my fantasies? Let's go WET." Seriously, how did a semi-wholesome comic strip turn into a borderline nudie film? Once more, no actual nudity or sex, but honestly, how would yous feel if they made a Flintstones cartoon on Nickelodeon where Betty wants to have sex with Fred and Wilma with Barney? Sure, it'south fine if y'all're adult, only it's a KIDS Serial!!! Overall, it's a poor tribute to an American icon, and these characters should never accept been portrayed every bit anything merely teenagers. Just lookout man this moving-picture show if you desire a chuckle. If y'all're an MST3k fan, you'll probably find some enjoyment in watching this disaster of a film. Maybe Rifftrax will brand fun of this someday.
